Happy birthday Singapore, and here’s to hoping that your people will learn to be less kiasu & kiasi, less seat-hogging on trains and less STOMP-happy with their badly taken camera phone photos about people behaving badly, and being more progressive in terms of outlook and attitudes, rather than thinking anything different = deviant and less deserving of respect. Also, can we be less xenophobic towards foreigners? They’re just people trying to eke out a living, and you’re just making yourself look like a douchebag when you make racist/xenophobic remarks.
I do acknowledge the fact that we have come a long way since our independence in 1965, and yes, a lot of people (now the older folks) have put in their blood and sweat to build up our country from its tiny community, but there is still a lot of room to grow in many social areas, especially. It’s no good just having economic growth, in the sense that our GDP looks good, but we neglect the fact that there are many less well-off people who need assistance, and the Gini co-efficient is probably just growing.
